Open House Drop in Centre

Operating Monday-Friday 10am-4pm (excluding public holidays)

Prahran Mission operates a Drop-In Center Monday to Friday called Open House; please see Mingles for information on the weekend Drop-In Centre. Open House aims to provide information, resources, social and recreational activities for people, with a psychiatric disability and/or socio economic disadvantage, in a safe environment and in a way that encourages ownership and participation.

Trips and Outings

Open House plans regular trips with the input of participants, including monthly outings and occasional short trip holidays.

Special Interest Groups, may change according to demand and resources.

Pandora’s Box a women’s group operating on alternate Thursday afternoons from 1.30-3.30pm

Secret Men’s Business a men’s group operating on alternate Thursday afternoons from 1.30-3.30 pm

Veg Out a gardening group, fortnightly trip to Prahran Mission’s garden located in St Kilda’s community garden

Music Group individual lessons on piano, guitar and modern lyre. Voice work and opportunities for performance.

Recreation Group have a go at bowling, tennis, volley ball, cycling, horse riding, fishing, walking, kite flying, anything else you might like to suggest.

Consumer Forum guest speakers discuss a range of topics over a light lunch, past subjects have included; HIV/AIDS, Medication and its effects, CAT team, legal rights.

Resources and Facilities:

Tea and Coffee facilities are available for use.

Internet and Computer book a time to browse on the Internet, use word processor or play games.

Recreation and Fun we have a pool table, a range of board and card games, videos, magazines, books and newspapers.

Washing Machine and Dryer available in Open House.

Cooking Equipment BBQ, microwave, stove and oven are available.

Shower and Toilet facilities are available for use during operation during Open House operating hours.

It is an expectation that you treat others with respect and you will in turn be treated with dignity and respect.

Open House conducts a fortnightly round table discussion which gives all participants the opportunity to have a fair and equal chance to influence the activities and directions of Open House.
